The widely awaited sequel to Jeff Mills’ Exhibitionist is finally set for release. The CD & DVD version of Exhibitionist 2 will be out in September 2015, accompanied by a series of 3 EP releases. AX067 Exhibitionist 2 Part 1 will be out late June. The EPs serve as an introduction to the Detroit native’s new effort to go behind the scenes and inside the mind of an electronic musician. All the tracks were written by Jeff Mills specifically for the project and will feature in the Studio Mix on the DVD, where you can get an inside view as to how some of the tracks were created.
The Louvre Museum in Paris will host an Exhibitionist 2 night on June 19th as part of his current residency. Jeff Mills is the first international artist to be given the privilege of the Carte Blanche series by the iconic French institution. Over the last five months, the mastermind curated a series of Duo Ephémères concerts, bringing together renowned figures from an array of artistic horizons. Guests of these very specials evenings included pianist Mikhaïl Rudy, choreographer Michel Abdoul and science fiction writer David Calvo.
On June 19th, Jeff Mills invites guest musicians Angie Taylor on bass and Gerald Mitchell on keyboards for a one of a kind performance. A special edit of the Exhibitionist 2 DVD material created specifically for the event will be shown. The version of the film, while a standalone piece in its own right, serves as a condensed edit of what to expect from the DVD. Besides showcasing Mills’ mixing prowess (in a reboot of Exhibitionist), the film will dig deep and explore the mechanics of the brain of the most celebrated electronic musician, and follow him as he creates music on the spot while providing a commentary of the whole process.
“Expanding the art forms in Dance Music has always been an agenda that needs constant monitoring because it has the ability to evolve and develop each and every idea. At angles that are not easy to see or understanding for most of the listening and dancing audiences, I’ve always felt that Dance music would make more sense to the people if they were allowed chances to understand how the music is being programmed and made – to witness this process from beginning.
The Exhibitionist 2 DVD is designed to go even deeper into the art form to display, not only how a DJ uses the latest technology, but how he thinks in real time to create and work spontaneously like a musician playing an acoustic instrument or a soloist thinking of rhythms on-the-spot. This is a rare opportunity to see how the technology of today is allowing DJs to be more free and thus, more creative. “ – Jeff Mills
