What do you do when equipment goes on strike?
I love when people go on strike but not equipment! It’s like every disappointment in this life. First, I’m a little shocked, then I’m sad and at the end comes the realization. I try to bring in my mind quotes like “Limitation is my inspiration” etc.. I try to find other ways to continue working despite the confused look.
What are your musical influences from childhood?
Many and from totally different genres of music. My first vinyl was a Chet Baker record, and from then I started to listen to a lot of jazz. Then came classical music and when I was a teenager I went towards more indie/alternative music. A few years later electronic music became the love of my life. Somehow my influences come from everything I have listened to and watched live in my life. For sure I can say that Arvo Part is my biggest inspiration and everyone else comes after, like Ben Frost, Max Richter.
Is it even possible to argue about musical tastes?
I don’t find so much meaning in arguing about taste. If someone likes EDM music and that makes him feel great, then I won’t be against this. It’s always possible to say something to someone but as an opinion, not an argument. It’s a struggle cause I many times feel want to argue, but in the end, these people that listen to me have the same confused look that I have when my equipment goes on strike.
Which track would run when you moved into your boxing match?
In general, I’m against sports and violence. So boxing? Mmm not my field.
What was the worst job you ever had?
Being a music producer. No, I’m kidding. The worst one but also a very funny one was a job I did when I was 26. I was translating porno films from German to Greek. I had no idea about the German language but the boss told me that nobody cares about the subtitles. He proposed that I translate according to my own fantasy. The company was also translating documentaries and movies and so I did the translation next to a mate who was translating how deers mate. You can call it epic.
Describes your sound to someone who has never heard it before.
Imagine you are taking a walk into a forest and the only thing you can hear are footsteps, the echo of the animals moving around you, the subtle sound of rain falling on the leaves. If you focus harder, you can hear the string quartet playing long harmonies and the piano.
Do you have any good tour stories from clubs or festivals?
Sure, I just don’t want to expose people and promoters. The funniest story I think was when I was DJing my usual techno set at a festival and one guy came up to me while I was still 1 minute into my intro and asked me if I will continue like this because it’s fucking boring and he can replace me after the intro finishes. I said to him ok, when the intro finishes I will let you know. He smiled. Then I said that that intro was 30 minutes long. and his smile disappeared. He said “Don’t let me know then, I’ll be dead in this corner”. I liked him.
What would you do if you weren’t a musician?
Good question, only God knows…But since there is no God, I can only imagine… I think I would be a manager. Building the profiles of the artists, giving them tips on how to be more attractive for audiences etc…
Which style of music should have the most followers? And why?
I cannot say one style only. Classical music should be more familiar, I think. Most of the people don’t like to listen to classical music. I know it can be hard to get into it, but not that hard actually.
What is the most important musical equipment invention of all time – and why?
For me and the things I do, it’s the reverb pedal. No reverb no ambient.
