The sound of Electric Sheep Collective blends funky and hip-hop grooves, jazz compositions and improvisations, atmosphere from the contemporary New York and Chicago free jazz scene and spoken words. A radical attitude reflected also by their lyrics, connected to social issues – such as migration – in the tradition of pioneers like Langston Hughes, Umar Bin Hassan, The Roots.
The name Electric Sheep Collective is inspired by the masterpiece by Philip K. Dick ‚Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?‘ and by the possibility of learning “imperfection” by machines. Re-imagining patterns originally created by artists like J Dilla and Hood and searching for uncertainty: this is definitely the trademark of the Collective’s sound, unique in the framework of the Italian music scene.
The founder of ESC, Angelo Olivieri, is one of the most talented Italian trumpeter, with various mentions in Top Jazz and JazzIt Awards and collaborations with artists like William Parker, Hamid Drake, Butch Morris, Vincent Courtois, John Sinclair, John Tchicai, Andrew Cyrille, Maria Pia De Vito, Bruce Ditmas, just to name a few. The rap-spoken word by the Nigerian Afro-Pop performer Joe Nize meets talents like the young saxophonist Vincenzo Vicaro, the bass player and composer Riccardo Di Fiandra, the drummer Daniele Di Pentima (founder of the Italian-Indian project Anatma), the pianist Lewis Saccocci (New Talents Jazz Orchestra, Cubist Dream di Bruce Ditmas), the trombonist Andrea Angeloni (Perugia Jazz Orchestra) and the performer Ashai Lombardo Arop, eclectic artist who expands the experience of the collective with spoken words, backing vocals and dance movements.
