London-based concert series SOLO presents violinist Rakhi Singh on June 11th in an intimate performance of music for violin and electronics. Originally staged in London back in November 2021, this concert sees music by composers such as Julia Wolfe, Michael Gordon and Alex Groves in specially-created versions for Monom. Rakhi’s an award-winning musician who weaves her way between musical worlds, from classical and folk to contemporary and electronic. She is Music Director of Manchester Collective and regularly collaborates with artists from different genres, including Clark, Blackhaine, Abel Selaocoe, Pedro Maia and Vessel. SOLO is a melting pot of formative influences, dream collaborations and new adventures, exploring the music that’s made each artist who they are today and giving you a unique insight into their life as a
musician.
On this date, we will also present excerpts from Mensch, Music! #3 – Hotspot Earth concert performed during „Earth Day“ on the radio Sinfonieorchester Berlin (RSB) under the extraordinary conduction of Vladimir Jurowski. Composers of all epochs have inevitably related to their environment, we see traces of that relationship in their music, where they discuss and describe the beauty of Nature, transience, destruction, but also hope. The Earth Day concert and program was the creative result of an intensive discussion of the RSB’s Vladimir Jurowski and Neil Barry Moss on the climate crisis. In Neil Barry Moss words: „It is certain that we are about to stand at a tipping point – a point of no return. But many people don’t want to hear that anymore. This idea, that we simultaneously embody ‚good and evil‘ was for me a key moment. I would like to draw a parallel as a scenic framework between the seven deadly sins and the seven virtues and thereby the question in the room: ‚How much can we really do and is what we are doing enough?. Sound works will be presented as sound installations re imagined in 4DSOUND.
Before every session we will present a meditative soundscape produced by Soundworks, to recalibrate your senses. During the day, we welcome you into the studio for an interactive experience of surrealistic interpretations of nature combined with music, from environments all over the world mixed in 4DSOUND. Children, poets, actors, singers, undercover performers, explorers, artists, non artists, everyone is welcome with no distinction to play, explore and interact. Open microphone and piano for the adventurous. We will close the night with a flourish. Oliver Klostermann, conservatory pianist and resident electronic music producer of Kater Blau, will delight us with a live performance and a DJ set in the Monom Lounge which will be also spatialised in 4DSOUND simultaneously in our studio.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Rakhi Singh
Rakhi Singh is a violinist, music director, curator and composer based between Manchester and London,
England. In 2016 she co-founded Manchester Collective whose running 21/22 season features
residencies at the Southbank, St George’s Bristol and The White Hotel, Salford. The collective gave their
magnificent debut proms performance in August 2021 performing works by the likes of Julius Eastman,
Dobrinka Tabakova and Edmund Finnis. Alongside her work leading the Collective, Singh has firmly
established herself as a violinist and leader of high repute, working for and alongside the likes of Steve
Reich, Phillip Glass, Oliver Coates, Eartheater, Clark, Björk, Olivia Chaney and Abel Selaocoe and guest
leading ensembles like London Contemporary Orchestra, RLPO, CBSO, Hebrides Ensemble, Sinfonia
Cymru. She is a recording artist for Bedroom Community, with whom she has released two albums as
curator/director of Manchester Collective and now with her debut composition EP Quarry. As a composer
she has written two large-scale pieces with long-time collaborator, electronic producer Vessel, the first of
which Written in Fire was premiered at Aldeburgh Festival and the second Paradise Lost commissioned
by Manchester Collective. Most recently she produced a film ‘FFAALL’ for the Royal Opera House 8bit
digital commissions, working closely with Director Joe Morgan, movement artist Blackhaine and opera
singer Mimi Doulton. Born to an English mother and Indian father in rural Wales, Rakhi’s upbringing was
influenced by many different cultures and traditions.
Vladimir Jurowski
Vladimir Jurowski has been chief conductor and artistic director of the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin
since 2017. He has now extended his contract until 2027. At the same time, he has been General Music
Director of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich since 2021
Oliver Klostermann
Oliver Klostermann is a pianist, composer and producer based in Berlin. Composing his Live- Sets, he
uses his unique musical intuition and ability on the piano. Besides his own productions he writes music in
various other elds, like the interpretation and orchestration of F. Händels „Xerxes“ for the Chiemgauer
Opera-Festival or collaborations with various performers and ensembles like the well established
Residenz-Theater in Munich. After performing live at Fusion-Festival in 2016, the young artist decided to
move to the world’s capital of electronic music and quickly became one of the most promising newcomers
and a very much celebrated underground act in the scene. Oliver‘s Live-Shows and Dj-Sets are highly
appreciated at some of Berlin’s most renowned venues like Sisyphos, Ritter Butzke and Wilde Renate or
Garbicz-Festival. His Live-Sets evolve around a hybrid live and dj-playstyle, which is not just a mouth
dropping view to witness, when Oliver‘s fingers rush virtuously over his keys and gear, but a stunning
musical experience full of improvisation and unexpected moments for every music enthusiast.
