Born from the encounter between one of Paris‘ finest hardcore music producers, Paul Seul, and the lyrical goth-pop singer, Mathilde Fernandez, ascendant vierge emerges as one of the most avant-garde and ambitious projects on the current electronic scene. What started out as a musical curiosity has now become a pop alchemy of startling scope and ambition.
All of this alchemy lies in this collaboration between a former rap instrumental producer and founder of the Casual Gabberz collective and a gothic pop diva with a background in fine arts and a fan of Mylène Farmer, David Bowie and Rammstein.
Carried by their tech/trance banger „Influenceur“, which became a party anthem played in the biggest techno clubs (10M+ streams and counting), the French duo released their debut EP Vierge in 2020.
Since then, they have toured the world from New York to Berlin, with stops in London, Barcelona and Paris, among others, enabling them to meet and build up an international following.
Two years, the band now announce the release of its debut album, Une Nouvelle Chance [A New Chance]. The campaign has kicked off with the release of the first single „À L’Infini“ earlier this month. “À L’Infini” is a trance lyrical club tune opening to a pop vibe. Mixed by the London based producer Geoff Swan (YUNGBLUD, Charli XCX, MØ, etc.), this beautifully highlights Mathilde Fernandez’s powerful voice on Paul Seul’s precise production technique.
Visuals are a fundamental dimension of the duo, who have made a name for themselves through edgy, creative imagery inspired by an emo-futurist style. This reflects on their social medias: creation of mini-series (horoscopes, dreams), fake mobile game ads, fake backstage photos, fake statements… So many ways to stage the band and tease the album in a TV zapping style with digital codes.
ascendant vierge will be back touring Europe as of May, playing club shows in France, Germany, UK, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Poland, and Eastern Europe, before heading to North America in late 2023.
About ascendant vierge
ascendant vierge was born in 2019 from the musical encounter between one of Paris‘ finest hardcore music producers, Paul Seul, and the lyrical goth-pop singer, Mathilde Fernandez.
A handful of self-produced tracks combining baroque and lyrical pop vocals with hard techno, trance or Eurodance productions was enough to catch the attention of fans and critics. Their debut single „Influenceur“ released just before the 2020’s pandemic has since gone viral, opening to new fans far beyond their originally niche musical scene.
This global excitement allowed the duo to significantly increase their reach leading to an ambitious first international tour. If the band took advantage of the global pandemic glitch and its temporal distortion to find its audience, the fervor of the reopening propelled them from digital virality to live phenomenon, shining throughout Europe and beyond.
ascendant vierge is a total experience where production, vocals, and image merge, with an exacting artistic ambition that both instantly satisfies and invites repeated listens.
Just like their captivating sound, catchy toplines and unique visual identity, their music is a state of a post-modern world, between clarity and fragmented dreaminess, distorted yet so intensely melodic and poetic.
