Following the launch of his new Silk + Steel imprint and its acclaimed inaugural release The World Goes On Without You, Manni Dee expands further on his broad aesthetic palette for two packages of remixes spanning hyperpop to jungle and everything in between.
Inviting a wide range of genre specialists to provide new interpretations of standout track ‘Pillow Princess’ – a collaboration with ANGEL BBY – the remixes are a glimpse into new sonic potentials from some of the most exciting producers of the moment.
For the first package released last month, Manni enlisted the multigenre aesthetics of TAAHLIAH, who spins the highly-charged bounce of the original into something even rowdier. On the flip side, French techno stalwart François X adds some maximalist drama, carving out a cavernous space for ANGEL BBY’s vocals to resonate.
Taking over the second package, which is due today, are three high-octane remixes from Akiko Haruna, Safety Trance, and Tim Reaper. First up, Brighton-based talent Akiko Haruna swirls the vocals into a sea of percussive fragments and glitching sonic inflections, followed by a heavy remix by Safety Trance (aka Cardopusher), whose industrial pads and EBM drums make for a tense and immersive listen. Finishing off the proceedings is none other than London junglist Tim Reaper, who pushes the original through a fierce blend of choppy jungle percussion and synth distortions, never losing sight of the original’s playful spirit.
