Hior Chronik announces the release of EP ‘Crave for More’, out on May 10th 2024 via Christian Löffler’s Ki Records In his latest endeavour, Crave for More, Hior Chronik, the accomplished Greek electronic music producer, neoclassical composer, and multiinstrumentalist, delves into the intricacies of human emotion, particularly focusing on themes of longing and desire. Each track on the album serves as a poignant reminder of the perpetual yearning that defines the human experience, urging listeners to reflect on the profound power of appreciation through haunting melodies and compelling beats. Originally from Athens and based in Berlin, Hior Chronik’s deep connection with music dates back to his childhood. Early exposure to classical music and jazz on the radio fueled his passion. His journey accelerated during his tenure as a radio
producer at the JazzFm station in Athens and as an editor for various music magazines. It was through these experiences that he discovered his true calling, experimenting with melodies and rhythms, leading to the creation of his first minimalist ambient piano patterns, later fused with electronica and vocals. Reflecting on this transformative period, Hior Chronik states, „It was a process to discover my hidden charisma.“ Known for seamlessly blending classical instrumentation with electronic beats, Hior Chronik has crafted a distinctive electro-ambient landscape in his previous releases. With Crave for More, he aimed to create an album that is both musicallyadventurous and accessible to his diverse audience, catering to ambient and techno enthusiasts alike. Shifting his focus to the dancefloor, Hior Chronik infused the EP with a variety of sub-genres, including Techno, Drum ‘n’ Bass, and Jungle, ensuring each track stands out in its own right. Initiating his creative process through Midi controllers, virtual instruments, and sampled loops, Hior Chronik embraces experimentation. He weaves layers of samples with organic sounds to create unique textures, all filtered through effects pedals. The powerful rhythms of Elektron drum machines drive the beats, playing a significant role in shaping the sonic landscape of the EP. The lead single, Chase the Shadows, sets the tone with its mesmerizing blend of electronic, ambient, and chillwave vibes. Featuring intricate break-beat rhythms and cinematic soundscapes, the track immerses listeners in a hypnotic haze. Hior Chronik describes the single, saying, „Chasing shadows can feel like an endless pursuit, as they often elude our grasp. Sometimes, though, chasing shadows can also represent the pursuit of knowledge or truth, even if it seems elusive at times.“ Subway Straps captures the frenetic energy of city life, using driving beats and ethereal synths to conjure images of bustling streets and fleeting connections. Mend, identified as the focus track, unfolds as a cinematic journey with dynamic rhythms and hypnotic minimal sounds, inspired by a poem by Martin Crimp. Hior Chronik explains, „Based on a text by Martin Crimp, the music builds and swells, echoing the ebb and flow of human experience captured in Crimp’s poetry. Words are the frame that defines a solitary dance in a crowded club.“ The EP’s overarching theme is showcased in Hior Chronik’s ability to evoke vivid imagery and complex emotions through sound. Each track takes the listener on a cinematic journey, weaving a narrative of longing, introspection, and the relentless pursuit of fulfilment. „The music implies a feeling of insatiable yearning, reflecting a desire to satisfy an intense appetite,“ he says.
