Electronic Brew began as a means to spread good, unheard, and quality new music. The airwaves are polluted with overproduced & commercial sounds, and so this was our little remedy to change the situation – one blog post at a time. In 2017 it was decided that Electronic Brew should also bring new life into the scene as well and so we began releasing music as Electronic Brew Records.
Hi Electronic Brew, Good to meet you! Who is behind the label?
Good to meet you too! I am Jonathan C. and I am one of the founders of the label.
When was the first idea to create the label?
Electronic Brew was once an electronic music magazine – which mainly focused on lesser known artists. After a while it was decided that we wanted to release music as well. To put our own stamp on the music industry.
Do you have any statistics since the label was created—how many releases, how many vinyl, and how many units have been sold?
There was one physical CD release but ever since then we have focused on online releases. We do have some ideas floating around for eventual vinyl, but we want to make sure that demand is there.
From which country do most buyers come from?
We see a lot of our listeners from the US, Mexico, and Europe.
Which release are you most proud of?
Our release on January 10th, 2025 is the one that we are most proud of “MYLAMINE – Find My Way”. Every release we hope gets better and I think that’s been happening.
Can you describe what a typical office life means for you?
Our record label runs out of our home offices. Most of us have multiple jobs, or do music as a side passion.
Do you produce yourself or are you a DJ?
I do produce as well!
Which distribution channels do you use?
We mainly just use our online distributor, but look forward to expanding that in the future.
Where do you find young, hungry, and ambitious artists?
We find a lot of artists through social media. The internet has made it very easy to access new and upcoming artists from all over the world with a click of a button.
What impact does Spotify streaming have on the economic location of an indie label?
We fully have invested in Spotify. Almost all of our marketing budget goes there. To us, it’s the future of music. I know a lot of people do not hold this view – but we’d rather adapt than try to fight it.
If you’re looking for new music, what are the key elements and factors you’re looking for, apart from the fact that it’s obviously a great track?
Personally, I’m looking for chill, laid back, jazzy and soulful music. Produced well, but it doesn’t need to be perfect. A little human error is ok. Originality is also great. The more unique an artist the better.
How would you describe the label’s style and vision?
Soulful and jazzy House Music. Our vision is to keep pushing out great music and bring enjoyment to anyone that we can.
For the producers out there who send their demos via email, what tips would you give them if they send their tracks?
We currently are not signing any artists at the moment, but that doesn’t mean we don’t listen. Be yourself, be unique. Most importantly – don’t sit around and wait for other people to sign you or promote you. Do it yourself! Get your music out there any way you can.
