CLUBBY BOY is House Music Record Label, run by DJ Matpat, based out of Philadelphia, & hatched from his Decade long party series Club Congress. Starting in 2018 the label has solely been a home for Mat’s production along with guest appearances from remixers Justin Cudmore, Elvin T, Oliver Dollar, Huxley, & Megatronic. With feedback and support from some of the best in the industry including Jimpster, Fred P, DJ Sprinkles, Jamie Jones, Skream, Lucy, Joris Voorn, Busy P, & even Maya Jane Coles dropping ‘(Push It) Gotta Take It’ on the main stage at Movement, it’s time for the label to start pushing new artists into the mix. 2025 will see a release from young producers Billy Bevevino & Celdred, introducing a new artist out of Richmond VA, Casey West, and bringing the Philly og Elvin T. back after his post pandemic summer anthem ‘Get Close’ released on Midlands label ‘Regraded’.
Clubby Boy has been a natural progression of Mat’s since starting to DJ at the age of 13 with a crate of his big brothers records. He has taken the time to develop a sound of his own rooted in House, all the while acquiring a wide breadth of musical knowledge to underpin his ethos of „playing the right song for the right moment“. As a producer he has released on a range of different labels including Derrick Carter’s Persnickety All Stars & Stretch Armstrong’s Plant Music. His productions have gained support from DJs such as Kerri Chandler (dropping „Everybody Rise“ on the Essential Mix), DJ Harvey, Blessed Madonna, & Laurent Garnier among others.
Between fronting his label & celebrating his 10 year running party CLUB CONGRESS in both Philadelphia and New York, 2025 is looking to be an exciting year.
Here at The Club Map we had the pleasure of talking to Matpat about CLUBBY BOY. Here’s how it went down…
Hi Matpat, when was the first idea to create the label?
My first few production releases were back in 2011, first on Terry Farley’s label Strobelight Honey, then Derrick Carter’s Persnickety All Stars and Stretch Armstrong’s label Plant Music. These first 3 releases got me some attention, including Kerri Chandler dropping ‘Everybody Rise’ on The Essential Mix. After that happened I noticed a whole bunch of labels were hitting me up to put tracks out on comps, it was like one compilation after another. I finally got tired of it and thought, I got the attention of some legends, it’s time to start my own thing. Plus at that time I was almost 4 years into my party Club Congress (we are about to celebrate our 10 Year Anniversary), which has a very cohesive visual identity that I always wanted to continue into a label. Clubby Boy is borrrn :)
Do you have any statistics since the label was created—how many releases, how many vinyl, and how many units have been sold?
So the label really has been an outlet for my own music, it’s on CBY08. 2 Releases on Vinyl, 1 Album, 2 EPS, 4 Singles, and one Remix EP. Remixers include Justin Cudmore, Elvin T, Oliver Dollar, Huxley, & Megatronic. That is all changing in 2025 though, I have releases lined up pushing some up and coming artists, one that has been named djs to watch on DJ MAG, as well as a few established producers including Elvin T (Regraded).
From which country do most buyers come from?
That’s a good question that I should know the answer too lol
Which release are you most proud of?
I’m proud of all for different reasons but definitely Push It Gotta Take It, hearing Maya Jane Coles play that track on the Main Stage of Movement was a big moment. The latest release as well, the ogs that were down to remix an original (no samples) Vocal House track is a big step for my production.
Do you produce yourself or are you a DJ?
I started Djng at 13, my brother was a DJ that used to run up and down the east coast rave/club circuit.. He used to dance at all the mainstays including the shelter, NASA, so he introduced me to all the classic NYC, Chicago, Detroit, SF, Philly, House Disco and Techno records that has helped form my DJing and Production style. Producer wise I’ve been making House music since 2010 but have played instruments since I was a young kid. My dad has always had a band growing up so music has been a major part of my life since birth pretty much.
Which distribution channels do you use?
I use Prime Distro.
If you’re looking for new music, what are the key elements and factors you’re looking for, apart from the fact that it’s obviously a great track?
I look for a unique style, nuance in production techniques and most of all ability to keep a dance floor in the right setting.
How would you describe the label’s style and vision?
The vision is very much influenced by the roots of this music without trying to jump on to what’s currently popular. More so just being genuine about the music we push..records that work in my sets and can be played at Club Congress.
For the producers out there who send their demos via email, what tips would you give them if they send their tracks?
Send your favorites, with a streamable personalized link to clubbyboytrax@gmail.com :)
