Describes your sound to someone who has never heard it before.
My sound has been inspired by Black Coffee & Keinemusik. My music is a mix of Deep house depths, soulful house combined with rhythmic drums and deep tech sounds. My version of Afro House is a bit darker and has a more hypnotic energy. Some tracks have an Underground feel and others have more rhythmic soul & soulful depths.
Can you tell us a bit about your journey as a DJ and producer? How did you get started in electronic music?
Music has always been a part of my life since young. When I was 16, I saved up to purchase my first equipment which was a Pro Tools Mbox, Korg Triton extreme keyboard, and a microphone. I started recording Rap/Hip Hop and R&B in my bedroom closet. My first introduction to electronic music was listening to David Guetta & Swedish House Mafia, which grew my interest in Edm music. Exploring the genre, I came across Black Coffee who pivoted me into producing Afro House music.
How would you describe your sound and artistic vision? Has it evolved over time?
My sound is constantly evolving. I have produced techno, afro tech & afro house. I will work from midnight to 5am most days, and my creative vision just happens as I go naturally. I am constantly working on new collabs to expand my sound. My vision is to bring all music lovers together to enjoy my version of Afro House/Afro Tech music.
What was the creative process like when working on ‘You Gotta Let Go’?
With You Gotta Let Go I wanted this to hit at a deeper level, with dramatic drums and an a bit more underground energy. I wanted a track that could hit a club, DJ set at just the right hypnotic energy to put listeners in a good zone.
Has the electronic music scene in Washington DC been beneficial to your career, and how would you describe the community?
The Washington DC scene has really helped me to develop a strong work ethic, develop my producing skills, and to push harder. The DC market is a tough scene for an electronic music DJ/Producers to breakthrough. The challenge here is International touring DJs do really well, however independent homegrown artists don’t have as many opportunities. It is an exciting time the electronic music scene is constantly growing here, and I am looking forward to playing a part in growing the scene.
You have been supported by artists including Keinemusik, can you tell us more about how their support happened?
I put a lot of time into submitting my music out to Labels, Influencers, and music submission platforms. “Deceiving” received a buzz on IG and many people were sharing my track. The track got picked up by Keinemusik and played across the world.
What are your musical influences from childhood?
My childhood influences are Nas, Biggie Smalls, Kris Kross, & Kanye.
The Afrohouse sound has had a massive impact globally, do you have any insights why you think it’s got as big as it has?
Afro House starting out in South Africa and getting the attention of the world is how it has grown. People everywhere heard the music and instantly wanted to create alongside. As more western producer/djs got involved, it was able to open up to a new set of listeners. Major players such as Black Coffee have been responsible for establishing a platform worldwide. He was the first one who gave me the Afro House experience.
You have collaborated with artists recently like Jordan John, are there other artists you’d love to collaborate with?
I am always looking to collaborate with artists around the world. Definitely wouldn’t mind collaborating with Themba, Shizma, MoBlack, Maz, SAMM, Enoo Napa, Native P and of course Black Coffee & Keinemusik.
What’s next for you in 2025? Any upcoming releases or shows we should be excited about?
I am going to be traveling a lot in 2025 to reach a larger audience than I am now. Overall, I’ve been spending a lot of time producing several tracks that I will be releasing in 2025. My goal this year to make as much music as possible. My next release is Mapoo with Chiguiro Records. Later in the year releasing several tracks with UDSI (U Dizzy) Records. These tracks have some Amapiano elements that I am really excited for.
