Dave is an italian DJ and Producer from Milan, he works in the music industry since2016 as resident dj of some of the best clubs in north italy. His sets are influenced bydifferent subgeners of House and Tech House, but his music taste is veryrecognizable, that’s why he played from local Festivals to smaller underground clubs. As producer he reached three times the Beatport Top 100 chart. His tracks has been played by: Cloonee, Wade, Claptone, Solardo, Mark Knight and Paco Osuna to name a few. Below is a candid interview with Dave.
- With „Malo Malo“, you teamed up with Bla-de and Yvvan Back on MIBARRIO Records. What does this track represent for you in terms of your musical journey?
‘Malo Malo’ is a track ready for the summer that will certainly make you move! It’s the peak of my Latin Tech House Era (that’s how a young girl can describe it) and I’m very happy with the result.
- How do you experience the transition from the DJ booth to the studio? Do you feel more at home performing live or creating music?
I think the emotion of testing out in a club a track you just made it’s indescribable. I personally love to create and to stay in the studio but I can’t imagine living without performing live.
- If you had to describe your style in three words, what would they be and why?
Let’s say: Groovy, Happy and Dave… First because I love to create grooves and rhythms, Happy because we need a bit of happiness in our lives and I think one of the many roles house music plays is bringing a bit of happiness into our lives. Finally Dave because I can’t find a better way to describe my sound with me, who knows me in person knows how much I love music and how my sound reflects my personality.
- You’ve played at iconic venues, was there a particular set that changed you as an artist?
Every venue is different
It might sound like a cliché, but I honestly appreciate all kinds of venues from the small, intimate ones where there’s just a handful of people and you’re so close you could literally reach out and touch them, to the bigger stages where you can build a more structured set because there’s less pressure to keep the floor packed every second. Each has its own vibe, and both have shaped me in different ways.
- How do you handle the pressure of maintaining a strong sonic identity in such a fast-evolving music scene?
I like to evolve my style a lot but not following the trend but instead being inspired by what I’m listening to at the moment. I try to maintain my identity leaving some signature sounds and structures in all my production even if my taste keeps evolving. If you listen carefully to all my productions you’ll find some recurring elements that build my signature sound
- What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a DJ and producer since starting out more than 10 years ago?
The biggest challenge is staying consistent and keeping your focus, even when things aren’t going your way. A lot of times, even when you hit personal milestones in production, the recognition doesn’t always come right away. Gigs can be hard to land, and of course we all went through the Covid period when nobody could play at all. But honestly, the only thing you can do is keep pushing forward and never stop grinding.
- How important is the support of labels like Hellbent, 303Lovers or MIBARRIO in building a solid and recognizable project?
I received amazing support from every label in helping me spread my music to big DJs and radio stations, so I’m very happy to have worked with them.
